Designing a large garden involves consideration of space and movement.  Practical consideration of how to move between and through the garden is balanced with more ethereal needs of beauty and atmosphere.  Subdividing larger areas into more human sized spaces help to make the garden seem more intimate and welcoming to encourage dwelling a little longer.  Hiding and revealing views give a greater sense of mystery and intrigue, inspiring movement around the garden.

Carefully designed planting close to the house helps to ‘ground’ a building within the site and give a sense of place.  As you move further from the house the planting design can become more relaxed and organic.
