Small Town Garden

Calm relaxing spaces

This small garden in south west London had good existing features, but had become very overgrown with clumps of bamboo and other shrubs. The brick walls were in good condition and contemporary to the 1970’s modernish while the right boundary required better screening which was achieved with horizontal cedar battens. The garden was divided into two ‘rooms’ with planters, a change in level and paving colour helping to delineate the spaces.

Bamboo was cutback and controlled with rootbarriers to prevent spread, with a small clump left for privacy screening. A Japanese Acer palmatum Bloodgood was provided greater space in which to spread. Next to this tree a simple water feature adds sound and calmness to the garden.
